The data shared by the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) deserve more than acknowledgment, they deserve action. CJCC reports that 90,832 survivors received services through Georgia's grant-funded domestic violence programs. The Georgia Commission on Family Violence ranks Carroll County in the 90th percentile for reported family violence incidents among Georgia's 159 counties. Our local certified family violence agency has publicly reported 1,567 crisis calls, 194 shelter residents, 768 legal advocacy clients, and 79,105 services in a single year. These are not isolated incidents; they represent one of the most significant public safety challenges facing our community.

When Carroll County identifies other public safety concerns, such as the current discussions surrounding kratom, we see public meetings, community engagement, education, and conversations about policy solutions. Family violence deserves the same level of visible leadership, urgency, transparency, and coordinated community response.

Georgia law recognizes this need. O.C.G.A. § 19-13-31 charges the Georgia Commission on Family Violence with supporting coordinated Community Family Violence Task Forces because collaboration is essential to preventing violence and improving victim safety. If Carroll County continues to rank among the highest counties in Georgia for reported family violence, and these numbers represent the reality in our own community, then the public deserves to know: Where is our coordinated community response? Who is at the table? If these statistics represented almost any other major public safety issue, we would expect coordinated planning, public updates, measurable objectives, and community-wide collaboration. Survivors and families affected by domestic violence deserve that same commitment. The data have already told us there is a problem. Now the community deserves to see the response.
