Back in December, I sent an unsolicited 9-minute voice note lol.
I always pictured myself at my Grammy party giving my thank-you speech — shouting out everyone who’s played a major role in my life. I truly believed this was going to be the year. I was praying and standing in faith for that nomination. When nomination day came, I even recorded myself watching the announcements. Whether my name was called or not, I wanted that moment documented.
Well, Pastor Mike Jr's "AMEN" got nominated for Best Gospel Performance/Song (I didn’t produce that one) 🔥🔥🔥🔥 — but he didn’t get the nomination for Best Gospel Album, which is what I had been specifically praying for.
I’d be lying if I said it didn’t sting a little. But even in that, I celebrated my brother. It’s still the first album I’ve been a part of, and a song from that project is Grammy-nominated. That alone is a blessing.
Back to that voice note…
I had originally planned to tell him all of this at my Grammy party, but instead I let it out then (with lots of tears lol). I told him that as someone who grew up in church, I eventually started doing my own thing as I got older and stopped doing church. When I first met PMJ, it was strictly music. I had never even heard him preach.
But the first time I did… something lit up inside of me.
Seeing pastors like him stand boldly and be 100% vulnerable made me feel seen. It stirred something in my spirit. I rededicated my life to God.
The music is a bonus. We’re locked in for life.
Everything changed when I put God back at the center. Like I told him, his words are changing people's lives. I'm proof.
