I HATED THIS THANKSGIVING! Really, nothing feels worse than spending the holiday totally alone. I'm 30, freshly dumped by the guy I thought I'd marry, drowning in stress at work, and barely holding it together.
My mom used to say, "If you can't help yourself, help someone else." So, I dragged myself to a shelter to volunteer to feed the homeless — felt like a good thing.
When I got there, the place was buzzing. So many volunteers had already shown up! Turns out, they didn't need extra hands. So, I stood there, awkward and unsure of what to do, when my eyes caught a framed plate — "Volunteer of the Year." With a picture of HIM. My worst enemy, the biggest jerk I've ever met. What the hell was HE doing here?!
I panicked and bolted for the door, but then I heard it — that smug, infuriating voice behind me:
"Emma?! Hah, guess this Thanksgiving will be one you'll never forget!"👇

My parents are real tyrants. I know that sounds awful, but it's true. They're perfect — rich, smart, never making mistakes. And they always demanded the same from me. Disobedience? Not an option. My appearance? Flawless, or fix it ASAP! And God forbid I have my own dreams or don't want to join my dad's business; they'd shut me up with a shout and a fist on the table. "Don't you dare to talk back, Kate!" That's their usual response.
Anyway, that day was even worse. I had to give a big presentation, and I tried telling them again that I didn't want to do it, but they just didn't care. So, I sucked it up and left.
I was walking down the street when I bumped into this homeless guy. He stared at me, and then his eyes filled with tears. Out of nowhere, he jumped up, hugged me, and shouted, "My Rosa, is it really you?! Oh Lord!"
I pulled back and said, "You've got the wrong person. I'm Kate."
He looked at me sadly and said, "Oh, you don't know, do you? They hid it from you?"
Within minutes, I was in tears.💔
