Precision Oral Surgery - Georgia
We love this question! A healing abutment (also referred to as a healing cap) is attached to your implant immediately
after implant placement. Healing abutments help gum tissue heal around the implant. Once your implant is integrated
to your bone a final abutment is used to attach your crown to your implant. Your dentist will handle the placement of
the final abutment and crown. Check back next week to read about all the benefits following your dental implant
process!

We get this question a lot, and YES!
The twist here is that each patient’s waiting period will vary, but it’s typically between three and six months. After your implant placement, your healing progress will be checked by your oral
surgeon. After your three to six months of healing, you’ll meet with your oral surgeon one final time. At this appointment, the surgeon will ensure the implant is fully integrated into your bone. Then a digital scan will be taken and sent to a dental lab for your implant crown and abutment to be made! The scan is used to create a custom crown that will be perfectly fitted for your mouth. The crown and abutment will be sent to your general dentist’s office and he or she will place the crown atop the implant.
