EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL: TOTTENHAM Vs MANCHESTER UNITED

In the 2024–25 UEFA Europa League final held at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Tottenham Hotspur clinched a 1–0 victory over Manchester United, ending a 17-year trophy drought and securing their third Europa League title.

The decisive moment occurred in the 42nd minute when Brennan Johnson capitalized on a defensive lapse. Pape Matar Sarr delivered a cross that led to a scramble involving Luke Shaw, resulting in the ball deflecting into United's net, with some sources attributing it as an own goal by Shaw.

Despite Manchester United dominating possession in the second half, they struggled to create meaningful chances. Tottenham's defense, bolstered by a crucial goal-line clearance from Micky van de Ven and key saves by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, preserved their lead.

Tottenham, under manager Ange Postecoglou, employed a disciplined defensive strategy, effectively absorbing United's pressure. Even without key players like James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski due to injuries, Spurs maintained their structure and resilience

Manchester United, managed by Rúben Amorim, opted for a possession-based approach but lacked creativity in the final third. Amad Diallo stood out as United's most threatening player, consistently challenging Spurs' defense, while striker Rasmus Højlund struggled to make an impact .

This victory not only ended Tottenham's long wait for silverware but also secured their qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League and a spot in the UEFA Super Cup final against either PSG or Inter Milan . For Manchester United, the loss means a season without European football, marking a significant setback for the club.
