Crazy Apron

This photo was taken many years ago, when we were still new immigrants.
I’m sitting on my mother’s lap, my older brother next to us, at our kitchen table.
We didn’t have much then.
But what I remember most from those years is the warmth of our home. 🤍
Especially the fact that there was always music playing in the background.🎶🎵🎤
As new immigrants we were also discovering Israeli music, and Zohar Argov was often playing on that old radio.
(You can actually see the huge radio in the corner of the table in this photo. We didn’t have a TV back then.)
My mother had a way of turning simple things into something special. 🤍
Sometimes it was blintzes in the morning. 😋
I know blinchiky are considered a Russian classic - and they were also a big part of my childhood, a reflection of the Russian influence on Bukharian cuisine and the melting pot we grew up in in Israel. 🙃
I would wake up early just because of the smell coming from the kitchen.
We would sit together around the table - my parents and my brother .
My father had his own way of eating them. 😍
He would sprinkle sugar over the blintz, fold it into a triangle, and start nibbling at the corners.
When he opened it again, the edges were full of tiny holes and patterns - like the decorations children make when they cut folded paper. 🤍
Blintzes will always remind me of family breakfasts, laughter, and those simple mornings together.
BLINTZES ( Blinchiky)
1 cup flour
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup boiling water
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp oil
Pinch of salt
Whisk everything until smooth.
Pour a thin layer of batter into a lightly oiled hot pan and cook on medium-high heat until lightly golden on both sides.
Serve warm with sugar, jam, cheese, or fruit.
For me, blintzes will always taste like childhood.🤍
