Whew… I already know this one might ruffle some feathers. 😅

And before anyone says it… let me be clear:

I AM HR. 💜
I’ve spent years sitting in the rooms employees don’t get invited into. I’ve advocated for people, challenged leaders, protected employees, built culture, and pushed organizations to do better.

So this is NOT an “HR is bad” post.

This is a “you need to understand how workplaces actually operate” post.

The best HR professionals care about people and understand the responsibility they have to the business. Both things can be true.

But here’s what I need employees to understand:

✨ Document your conversations.
✨ Know your policies.
✨ Advocate for yourself.
✨ Understand that relationships at work still require boundaries.

A good HR partner can support you, coach you, and guide you…

But HR does not replace your responsibility to manage your own career.

Coach Sej keeps it real because I’ve seen too many talented people learn workplace lessons the hard way.

Let’s clear something up…

Fractional HR does NOT mean “someone who answers employee questions a few hours a week.”

At least not when you bring in the right person.

A lot of founders hit that awkward growth stage where you’re no longer just building an idea…

Whew… let’s talk about it.

Because somewhere along the way a lot of people were taught:

“Get a good job and you’ll be good.”

And listen… a good job is a blessing.
A stable paycheck is a blessing.
A healthy workplace is a blessing.

But your job was never designed to be the entire strategy for your life.

I’ve sat on both sides…

As an HR leader reviewing compensation, restructuring teams, hiring talent, and making business decisions…

And as a coach helping people rebuild after realizing they gave a company more planning than they gave themselves.

Your company has goals.
Your department has goals.
Your leader has goals.

My question is…

Do YOU have goals?

✨ Are you managing your money?
✨ Are you preparing for your next level?
✨ Are you growing beyond your current title?

Love your job.
Show up with excellence.
Be valuable.

But never forget to build YOU too.

Sometimes growth doesn’t look like a huge win. Sometimes growth looks like surviving the month, choosing yourself, setting boundaries, staying consistent, or simply not giving up.
