The GBI’s cold case unit has closed another case thanks to The Coleman-Baker Act! Fantastic news!
GBI Announces Arrest in the 1984 R**e and Murder of Sandra Kaye Davis in Ware County
Waycross, GA (March 31, 2026) – The GBI has arrested and charged Freddie Lee Granger Jr., age 68, of Ware County, GA, with one count of R**e, one count of Aggravated Assault, one count of Malice Murder, and two counts of Felony Murder in connection with the 1984 r**e and murder of 22-year-old Sandra Kaye Davis.
On September 1, 1984, the Waycross Police Department discovered Davis’s body beside a home on Kollock Street in Waycross, Georgia. She had been strangled. Waycross PD later requested the GBI to assist with the investigation. Through the years, the GBI and the Waycross Police Department remained committed to finding the truth behind Davis’s death. The results of continued DNA testing linked Granger to the crime.
On March 31, 2026, Granger was taken into custody and booked into the Ware County Jail.
The Waycross Police Department, the Ware County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, and the GBI’s Cold Case Unit assisted the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Douglas with the investigation and in locating and arresting Granger.
This investigation is still active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Douglas at 912-389-4103. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or by downloading the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

**UPDATE**
It's finally happening! I've waited to share this until I felt sure there could be no hiccups this time, but on Tuesday, March 31st at 9am—Michael Chapel will have his evidentiary Habeas hearing. THIS is his day in court we have been waiting for.
I spoke with Mike this morning and he is in good spirits and "cautiously optimistic".
A message from Mike to all who have supported him:
"This has been a long, long, long fight. It's been defeat after defeat after defeat and only when good people came along and decided to take a look at the injustice that was done in their own forms and formats that the truth began to be found out. And each and every individual in their own ways contributed to where we are today. And I would like to thank everybody, everyone who has helped, who has said this is a wrong, that needs to be right.
I believe that once we get to the hearing next week, that if this judge here, he follows the rule of law, it will be remedied some form or fashion. And I can return home and be with my, the only thing that matters is being with my family and nothing else. That's all this is about, is just getting this doors to be open and justice be served. And I'd like to thank everybody for all their love and support and prayers, of course. It's gonna happen, we're getting there."
On a personal note, THANK YOU to everyone who has supported this project, In the Land of Lies, and this cause. You are the reason Mike has this opportunity. In a matter of days, life will change for Mike Chapel one way or the other. Keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate what is hopefully the end of a very traumatic experience spanning more than 30 years. Stay tuned for updates.

Another case solved thanks to the Coleman-Baker Act! Incredible news coming out of Douglas, Georgia today. Great work by the GBI, and my thoughts are with the family of Sandra Robinson. I hope they are able to find closure in this arrest.
Nearly 16 years after Georgia mother of four's murder, an arrest has been made in her cold case killing In 2010, Sandra Robinson was found stabbed to death in the Georgia phone store where she worked. Investigators say they've now made an arrest in the mother of four's murder.
