Challenges During Re-adjustment to Civilian Life:
Civilians may not be aware of the unique challenges that separating from military service and returning to civilian life can bring.
I highlight 5 of the top 10 challenges we often find difficult as Veterans:
1. Relating to people who do not know or understand what military personnel have experienced.
2. Reconnecting with family and re-establishing a role in the family.
3. Joining or creating a community.
When moving away from a base or post, adjustment can be hard.
4. Preparing to enter the work force.
A Veteran may have never looked for, applied for, or interviewed for a civilian job. These are new skills we will have to learn and master.
In applying for a job, a Veteran will have to determine how to translate their military skills and duties into civilian terms and create a resume.
A Veteran may have never created a resume. Instead of a resume the military uses a Field Service Record to detail qualifications, training, and experience.
5. Creating structure.
The military provides structure and has a clear chain of command. This does not naturally exist outside the military. A Veteran will have to create their own structure or adjust to living in an environment with more ambiguity.
No matter how long you've been separated, replacing your uniform for civilian clothes can be hard. The good news is that you can find help for many of your questions or challenges.
I have first hand knowledge of the struggles of transitioning, and can relate to many situations that others experience.
Based on my years of military service and civilian human resources knowledge, I created a must read “Special Report” for anyone already separated, preparing to leave, or transitioning from the military to a civilian occupation.

Did you know that estimates show over 90% of people who set New Year's goals never actually achieve them? Imagine traveling on a winding road, without direction or a destination. Doing so would result in a waste of time and energy. We get the same results when creating goals without a strategy for success.
How can you fix this? Start by using the MAPS Method
Goal should be:
Measurable
Actionable
Personal
Specific
