1. Move your clients head, not your body! This small tip alone changed not only my eyeshadow application process, but my full face application process overall. I remember years ago when I first started out doing makeup, I would move myself around a lot trying to reach every part of the face that I needed to. Not only was this exhausting, but being right handed and trying to work on the left side of my client’s face rarely made for a good outcome. Manipulate your client’s face and body so that you are comfortable, your hand is stable, and you are able to work on small details of your artistry without straining yourself.

2. Remember, your brush is a tool! Your job as an artist is to discover how to utilize the tools in your kit in such a way that you are able to maximize your skill set. Flip your brush around if necessary. Angle your brush so that you are able to pack product into a specific area. Learning my tools and how to use them in multiple ways elevated my eyeshadow application process tremendously.

3. Your fingers are tools too! Just as you would use your pinky as an anchor on the nose when filling in the brow, you can use your thumb to raise the brow to help with your eyeshadow application process. This trick is especially helpful when using the windshield whipper motion to apply shadow into the crease area.
