Today, 900 Delta people across the country participated in the 9/11 Day of Service supporting meal packing events to honor and remember those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.

As we approach our 100th anniversary, we reflect on former CEO Jerry Grinstein’s transformational impact on our core values.

Jerry made his first impression on Delta when, as the CEO of Western Airlines, he led the merger of the two airlines in 1987, which made us the fourth-largest U.S. airline. As Delta’s CEO in 2004, he guided us through bankruptcy, reinstating our people-first culture. Known for his servant leadership, Jerry built strong relationships and truly cared for Delta people.

When Jerry was awarded a stock grant, he established a scholarship and hardship fund instead. Today, the Care Fund, supported by employee donations, has given over $31 million in grants and remains a prime example of Delta people helping Delta people. 

Honoring his legacy, our Executive Building is now named after Jerry, symbolizing the values that will guide us into the next century.

“This building really belongs to the people of Delta - the genius of the people and their will to continue through difficult times,” Jerry said during the event. “You can’t help but have a passion for this company. It’s the top of the industry, and there’s no one quite like it.”
