July is Disability Pride Month!
The Disability Pride flag, originally created by Ann Magill in 2019, was redesigned in 2021 after finding that the original flag could trigger migraines or seizures. Each color represents a different aspect of the Disability Community:
• Green is for sensory disabilities.
• Blue is for psychiatric disabilities.
• White is for invisible disabilities and undiagnosed disabilities.
• Gold is for neurodivergence.
• Red is for physical disabilities.
• The black background represents mourning for those who have lost their lives to ableist violence, and resistance against ableism.
• The parallel lines represent solidarity among the Disability Community.
• The diagonal lines represent cutting across barriers, as well as creativity and light in darkness.
How are you celebrating Disability Pride Month?
