“Say her name”
Sonya Massey!
Sonya Massey’s story is a painful reminder of the systemic issues that continue to plague our society. Her life mattered deeply, and we must honor her memory by advocating for meaningful change. Outrage alone is not enough; we must act. We must demand justice for Sonya and countless others who have fallen victim to racial violence and police brutality. We must push for systemic reforms and hold those in power accountable.
I recognize my privilege and the responsibility it brings. Silence is not an option!

On June 29, a Dayton police officer shot and killed 16-year-old Brian Moody. Once again, we bear witness to police and gun violence that repeatedly traumatizes BIPOC communities. Our hearts are with the family and friends of Brian Moody, as well as the entire Dayton community. We stand with the movement and all who seek accountability and reform for injustice at the hands of the state. Today we commemorate Juneteenth, a significant day in American history that symbolizes freedom and the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved African Americans in Texas were informed of their freedom, marking a crucial step towards justice and equality.
Juneteenth is not just a day of remembrance but also a celebration of resilience, culture, and the ongoing journey towards true equality. It's a moment to educate ourselves about the history and experiences of Black Americans and to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to address racial injustices in our society.
I stand in solidarity with the Black community and am committed to being an ally in the fight against systemic racism. Let’s use this day to learn, listen, and act, honoring the past while building a more inclusive future.
Happy Juneteenth!
