A Q&A with Black leisure advocate & Juneteenth cookbook author Nicole A. Taylor 07/18/2023

Thank you Reckon!

What’s another Black holiday or celebration that you’d love to do a cookbook for?

That’s a good question. There are so many Black celebrations that people don’t think about. Last night I was at Tribeca film festival watching a film about the Negro Baseball League and just thinking about it and seeing how black people dressed up going to these baseball games in the 1920s and 1930s and ‘40s. It was a really big deal. But that’s another black celebration.

Black August which is a liberation celebration that really highlights the incarcerated men and women who were freedom fighters. Malcolm X’s birthday, for some people, is a big holiday. So, I think that I don’t necessarily have to be the one to write it. My hope is that Watermelon & Red Birds opens the door for more people to write books about Black celebrations.
