UGA Opera Theatre

It’s Opening Night for UGA Opera Theatre! Hope you can join us for Korngold’s Ring of Polykrates making its Southeastern American Debut here at UGA as a part of the UGA Spotlight on the Arts celebration.

A collaboration between UGA Opera Theatre, the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra, and the UGA Department of Theatre and Film Studies. Directed by Daniel Ellis, director of the UGA Opera Theatre, conducted by Mark Cedel with music direction and vocal coaching by Andrew Voelker Set designed by UGA Alumnus, Cody Russell. Costumes designed by Ivan Ingermann, head of UGA design department of Theatre and Film. Lighting Desgined by Graff Imhoof.

Composed in 1916 by a 16 year old Erich Korngold - decades before his Oscar-winning Hollywood triumph The Adventures of Robin Hood starting Errol Flynn- this sparkling comic opera brims with youthful brilliance, lyrical charm with soaring romantic melodies, and a dash of physiological intrigue. It’s a witty reminder: be careful what you wish for - perfection is a fragile thing!

Running Novemeber 7th - 7:30pm and November 9th - 3:00pm at Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall at the UGA performing Arts Center.
