My art is focused on creating a source of light in the darkness. Every day I fight with myself. The thoughts say, “How dare I take time to make art in a world that is hurting on so many levels?” But my fingers and my soul are called to do this, to make tangible and visible magic out of materials that have been discarded. And therein I find why it is I make art, and why dragons in particular.

To me, dragons are a metaphor for our inner fierceness, our inner light and fire we must cultivate and then let out to fly free if we are to help this struggling world. My hope is to inspire you, to encourage you, to stoke your own unique fire, and find YOUR way to make magic out of wherever and whatever you have.

Each of us has our own fire to stoke, and if we are burning brightly, we can help outside ourselves.

And so even in dark times, I humbly hope you will join me and my friend Ryan LaFever - who beautifully photographed my dragons, imagining a world where there are dragons alive in our forests - at tomorrow’s art opening at Purple Chopstix.
