Loved visiting Squire’s Castle today! The area is clean, peaceful, and gives the perfect mix of history and nature. Great trails, great scenery, and such a relaxing spot!

🏰 Important Information About Squire’s Castle (Willoughby Hills, Ohio)

1. Not a real castle
Squire’s Castle is not an actual medieval castle—it’s a gatehouse built in the 1890s as part of a grand estate plan that was never completed.

2. Built by a wealthy Standard Oil executive
It was built by Feargus B. Squire, one of the early executives of Standard Oil, who wanted a countryside retreat with a large English-style estate.

3. The original mansion was never built
Even though the gatehouse was completed, the main mansion planned behind it was never constructed. Squire eventually lost interest and sold the property.

4. It’s now part of the Cleveland Metroparks
Today, Squire’s Castle belongs to the North Chagrin Reservation under Cleveland Metroparks. It’s free to visit and open to the public year-round.

5. Open interior for exploring
The inside of the castle is completely open, with empty rooms where the fireplaces and living areas used to be. It’s great for photos, exploring, and events.

6. Surrounded by nature and trails
The castle sits in a huge grassy field surrounded by:

Walking trails

Picnic areas

Woods and wildlife

Scenic spots for photos

It’s a popular place for families, hikers, photographers, and weddings.

7. One of the most photographed spots in Northeast Ohio
Because of its dramatic stone look and beautiful surroundings, it’s one of the top photo destinations in the region.

Had the BEST day at the Children's Museum in Erie! 🥰 The kids and I absolutely love this place — every corner is filled with fun, learning, and endless imagination. Seeing their little faces light up with curiosity and joy just makes my heart so happy. 💖 If you’re looking for a place where kids can play, explore, and learn all at once, this is it!
