Here’s an action packed one!!!:
Tuesday morning Nancy was called by a bank employee at the First Citizens in Weaverville because apparently a kitten had fallen down into the storm drain at their parking lot.
One of the staff members had seen the two kittens out playing in the morning and about an hour later a customer told them they heard the crying down inside the drain which is about 9 feet down!!
She hustled to the site to get the kitten but not see it. So a system was set up between a soft carrier to get down there as well as a kitten trap, but I needed to get a ladder was needed. AND! The fire department in order to open up the city grate.
Dr. Alan to the ladder rescue!!!!! And she was able to borrow an 8 foot ladder and the Sheriffs department agreed to come over to pull the grate so she could climb down inside the drainage.
Once she was down, (anyone else picturing some “It” vibes?!) even with flashlights the tiny kitten was far too scared to come close enough.
Problems:
There are two drain lines that feed that location.
We weren’t supposed to get any rain … but we live in Western Carolina…
So after hanging out for an hour and seeing no kitten and less “mewwwws” Nancy left at 6:30 hoping for the best..
An hour later it poured, and then was dark by the time it stopped.
Hope was lessening.
Wednesday, after stopping to see if the fire department could meet her there, when I looked down in the drain, she was so disheartened until I heard a “meewwww” and even though she could only barely see the trap, (but didn’t think she could possibly be lucky enough), still, climbing back down; low and behold it was moving and a little tiny black kitten was screaming inside of it!!!!!! Huzzah!!!!
She handed it up to the amazing guys, climbed out, pointed at the one who was holding the trap and asked his name which he said was Justin and she said: “Justin, meet Justin” pointing at the trap, and then proceeded to tell those guys how awesome they CLEARLY were for coming out to help tiny kittens, Nancy, and humanity and of course grabbing a hug from one of them along with pics!
Cheeeerrrsss to the Weaverville Fire Department, Dr Allen and all kitten lovers out there! Nancy is a hero. Even if she’s sort of a Teenage Mutant Turtle now!
Video in the comments!

Tiny torti in the house! Or rather on the couch! Pretty soon it’ll be tiny torti in a lap! Just one of many examples of the tiniest ones that have been caught/called about. The one in the trap was the last to be caught and pretty soon they will be reunited with their mom who got spayed last week! Please remember to spay and neuter prior to the litters being conceived! If you are in need reach out!!
