A growing number of Black artists are distancing themselves from the Freedom 250 concert series after organizers announced the lineup for the Trump-linked America 250 celebration.

Young MC said he would not perform, stating that artists were “never told about any political involvement” with the event and that he hopes to perform in Washington at something “not so politically charged.” Morris Day & The Time also rejected their inclusion, with Morris Day posting: “It’s a no for me.”

The Commodores have now joined the list, saying they will not participate because they do not publicly affiliate with any political party.

Meanwhile, performers associated with Milli Vanilli said they were shocked to see the group’s name advertised and claimed they were never contacted about appearing.

Freedom 250 describes itself as a nonpartisan organization celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, but with Young MC, Morris Day, The Commodores, and Milli Vanilli all distancing themselves from the event, questions are continuing to grow about how several acts ended up on the announced lineup in the first place.
