Why Are You Present Wednesday? 💙

For Derin Thompson Podvin, Executive Director of Family Connection–Communities In Schools of Athens, the answer starts with being a mom.

She wants every child in her community to have access to the same opportunities she wants for her own children. That belief fuels her commitment to showing up, creating pathways, and helping young people thrive.

As the old saying goes, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” 🌊

When we invest in children and families, we strengthen entire communities.

🎥 Watch this moment from our 2025 Leadership Town Hall and hear what motivates Derin to be present.

Now we want to hear from you: Why are you present?

Big things are happening in Maryland! 🎉

Communities In Schools is expanding into Maryland through a new partnership with ALL4LOVE, backed by a $1.08 million investment from Blue Meridian Partners that will help bring critical support services to students across Dorchester County Public Schools.

Over the next three years, five full-time site coordinators will be embedded in schools throughout the district, connecting students and families to the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to succeed.

This investment is more than funding it's a commitment to ensuring every student has someone in their corner and the support needed to reach their full potential.

Congratulations to ALL4LOVE, Dorchester County Public Schools, Governor Wes Moore's ENOUGH Alliance, and everyone working to create brighter futures for Maryland students.
