Oh No! We don't like hearing stories like this. Stay away from brokers when possible. Always check your potential mover's MC number and reputation before committing.

A family caught in a scam situation with a broker. Currently happening:

Moving TX to VA the house they were renting was sold and they have to be out of the house at the end of this week with a later report date. The military wasn’t able to get movers for when they needed, so they decided to do a PPM.

They hired a company that met their needs and after the pre move survey was quoted $14,000.

Now all of the sudden the company is saying they owe another $16,000 because they have to supply boxes and packing services. They are also requesting an $8,000 deposit.

Their contract is non binding, which means the price could change at any time for any reason.

This is the experience of using a broker.

In this case, money has not been paid yet and services have not been rendered. But many families who find themselves in this situation discover the scam too late.

Utilize the FMCSA site (link in comments) to verify the company. If they are not listed or if they are listed as a broker then you need to find another company.
