We're honored to welcome Makone Maja, Strategic Engagements Manager at the Institute of Race Relations (IRR), as our Toast to Freedom speaker at Africa Liberty Forum 2026.

Last year in Nairobi, Makone accepted Atlas Network's 2025 Africa Liberty Award on behalf of IRR in recognition of the organization's Champions for Growth Project.

With one-third of South Africa's workforce unemployed and half the population living in poverty, IRR launched Champions for Growth to advance a practical free-market reform agenda focused on economic growth and job creation.

Through a series of policy papers, strategic media outreach, and its digital publication The Daily Friend, the initiative has helped elevate economic growth to the center of South Africa's national conversation. Today, leaders across government are proposing reforms that reflect many of the principles IRR has long championed.

Each year, the forum brings together think tanks and civil society leaders to exchange ideas, share what works, and celebrate the organizations creating measurable impact in their countries. It's where today's success stories become tomorrow's inspiration.
