Pullen For Wisconsin

Seven years ago today, at approximately 1730 hours, the crew of 9321 was dispatched to the Valley Transit Center to provide aid to an individual who had overdosed. Once the individual was revived, he pulled a handgun from his person and began firing upon the police officers and firefighters who had just saved his life. Mitch Lundgaard, a 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department, was tragically struck by this gunfire and did not survive. Mitch is survived by his wife, Lindsey, and their three sons, Evan, Logan, and Ryan. An Appleton Police Officer was also struck by gunfire that day, and we are grateful for the officers who responded with courage and ultimately brought the situation to an end. I am thankful for the first responders in our community who were working that day and endured so much in an effort to save Mitch and others on scene, and for the community of first responders around Northeastern Wisconsin who came together to support the Appleton Fire and Police Departments in their time of need.

Today is Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by so many. I will work tirelessly once elected to ensure our law enforcement gets the best training possible, and the tools they need to do their jobs safely and go back home to their families unharmed.

I had a great time this past weekend helping remove trash from Alicia Park with Pulse and the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance! It was a relaxing morning along the river while making a real impact — I personally removed nearly 20 pounds of trash that would've otherwise ended up in our waterways. Already looking forward to next year!

Yesterday I had the honor of welcoming home soldiers from the Wisconsin Army National Guard after their activation to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. I am grateful every day for the sacrifices made by our troops and their families to keep us safe. Welcome home!
