😴 Sleep Isn't a Luxury—It's Part of Healing.
For many veterans and service members, getting a full night's sleep can feel like another battle.
PTSD, anxiety, chronic stress, pain, and hypervigilance can make it difficult to fall asleep—or stay asleep. But sleep isn't just about feeling rested. It's when our bodies recover, our brains process emotions, and our resilience is rebuilt.
At Fox Valley Warrior Aid Alliance, we believe healing is built one step at a time. That's why our Warrior Response Tool Kits include practical comfort items—like weighted or cooling blankets, cooling eye masks, weighted neck wraps, lavender spray, satin pillowcases, worry stones, and a CSA HOPE Box—to help support healthy sleep routines and recovery. While these tools aren't treatments, many veterans find they help create a calming environment at the end of the day.
As a division of the Center for Su***de Awareness, we're sharing an important article that explores the connection between sleep, PTSD, and recovery—and offers practical sleep hygiene tips that anyone can start using tonight.
📖 Read the full article here: https://www.centerforsu***deawareness.org/blogs/sleep--recovery--and-ptsd--why-rest-is-one-of-the-four-pillars-of-healing
💜 Better sleep won't solve everything, but it can make every other step toward healing a little easier.

Fox Valley Warrior Aid Alliance: Supporting Those Who Served 💙
As a division of the Center for Su***de Awareness (CSA), Fox Valley Warrior Aid Alliance is dedicated to supporting the well-being of service members and veterans through practical resources, compassionate connections, and our Warrior Response Tool Kits.
One of the questions we're asked most is, "How do you choose who receives a Warrior Response Tool Kit?"
The answer is simple: We support service members and veterans who need a little extra help, one person at a time.
Here's how it works:
✅ Request a Kit – Service members and veterans can request a kit for themselves or someone they know through our website.
✅ Community Referrals – Many recipients are referred by fellow veterans, family members, community partners, or organizations we work with.
✅ Personal Connection – Every request receives a personal phone call. We take the time to listen, understand individual needs, and determine how we can best help.
✅ Personally Delivered – When inventory and funding are available, every Warrior Response Tool Kit is personally hand-delivered by a member of our team. That face-to-face connection is an important part of our mission. It's more than delivering a bag—it's letting someone know they are seen, valued, and not alone.
Each Warrior Response Tool Kit includes carefully selected wellness tools, a CSA HOPE Box, and mental health resources and educational literature to provide support long after the delivery.

❄️ Migraine Relief Looks Different for Everyone 💙
If you live with migraines, you know there's rarely a one-size-fits-all solution.
For some people, cooling eye masks and cooling migraine caps can provide meaningful relief by combining cold therapy, gentle compression, and light blocking. While they don't stop every migraine, research suggests cold therapy may help reduce migraine pain in the short term for many individuals.
At Fox Valley Warrior Aid Alliance, we've seen this firsthand.
We've included cooling eye masks and migraine caps in Warrior Response Tool Kits, and many veterans have shared that these simple tools have helped take the edge off migraine pain, tension headaches, light sensitivity, and stress. While everyone's experience is different, they've become one of the wellness items our recipients request most often.
💙 Relief doesn't always have to come from medication alone.
Sometimes it's the combination of:
❄️ Cold therapy
😴 Rest
🌑 Blocking light
🧘 Reducing stress
❤️ Finding what works for you
If migraines are affecting your quality of life, talk with your healthcare provider about developing a treatment plan that's right for you. Non-medication tools like cooling masks and caps may be a helpful addition—not a replacement—for your care.
Have you tried a cooling eye mask or migraine cap? We'd love to hear what has helped you manage your migraines.

💜 Two Years of Hope. 127 Lives Touched.
Fox Valley Warrior Aid Alliance proudly celebrates two years of serving veterans, service members, and military families.
Over the past two years, we've had the privilege of providing:
💜 117 Warrior Response Tool Kits to veterans and service members.
💜 10 Resilient Kids Resource Kits to military and veteran families.
💜 Numerous comfort items and resources to veterans in hospitals and those facing life's toughest challenges.
That's 127 lives directly touched—and countless family members, friends, and caregivers reminded that they are not alone.
What began as a partnership with the Center for Su***de Awareness (CSA), at the beginning of our first year has grown into something even more meaningful. We are incredibly proud to announce that Fox Valley Warrior Aid Alliance is now an official division of the Center for Su***de Awareness.
This exciting new chapter expands our ability to reach more veterans and military families, strengthen collaborations, and increase funding opportunities so we can continue providing life-changing resources for years to come.
None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support, encouragement, and belief of Barb Bigalke and the entire Center for Su***de Awareness family. Barb saw the vision from the very beginning, stood beside us through every challenge, and helped make this next chapter possible.
To our incredible Board of Directors—thank you for your dedication, your countless volunteer hours, your compassion, and your belief in our mission. Your leadership and willingness to serve have helped transform an idea into an organization that is making a real difference in people's lives.
To every donor, volunteer, community partner, and supporter who has contributed along the way, thank you. Every toolkit, every resource, every conversation, and every act of kindness has helped remind someone that they matter.
This anniversary isn't just about numbers.
It's about veterans sleeping better because someone cared.
It's about children learning healthy ways to cope.
It's about families finding hope.
It's about building a community where no one has to fight their battles alone.
127 lives touched. Countless more impacted. And with the Center for Su***de Awareness beside us, we're just getting started.
💜 Together, we serve those who have served.

Facebook reminded me today just how far Fox Valley Warrior Aid Alliance has come. ❤️🇺🇸
This photo stopped me in my tracks.
It all started with one backpack.
A weighted blanket, a few comfort items, and one simple goal: make sure no veteran felt like they were fighting their battle alone.
I didn't know exactly what the kits would become.
So...I listened.
I listened to veterans who couldn't sleep.
I listened to service members carrying invisible wounds.
I listened to military families trying to support the people they love.
I listened to partners, clinicians, and fellow advocates.
Every conversation taught me something.
Every delivery led to another improvement.
Every piece of feedback made the next kit better than the last.
Today, that single backpack has grown into two signature programs:
🇺🇸 Warrior Response Tool Kits for service members and veterans.
💙 Resilient Kids Resource Kits for military children and families.
Every item has a purpose because someone shared their experience and trusted us enough to say, "This would have helped me."
Today, Fox Valley Warrior Aid Alliance is proud to be a division of the Center for Su***de Awareness , allowing us to reach even more military families with practical tools, resources, and hope.
This journey was never about creating the perfect kit.
It has always been about listening to the people we serve—and continuing to grow with them.
Thank you to every donor, volunteer, board member, partner, and veteran who has been part of this mission. You didn't just help build kits...
You helped build hope. 💙🇺🇸

🧠 Not all suicidal thoughts mean the same thing.
One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding su***de is that admitting to suicidal thoughts automatically means someone is in immediate danger.
The truth is more nuanced.
💜 Suicidal ideation can involve thoughts of death, not existing, or wanting relief from emotional pain — without an immediate plan or intent.
💙 Active su***de risk means there is immediate concern for safety, involving intent, planning, or access to means.
Understanding the difference helps us respond with compassion instead of fear, reduces stigma, and creates opportunities for support before a crisis occurs.
Because people deserve help long before they reach their breaking point.

Not all wounds are visible.
Today, on PTSD Awareness Day, we recognize the veterans, active-duty military members, first responders, and families carrying the lasting effects of trauma—often quietly, and often without others realizing the weight they bear.
As Jason Austin shares, PTSD may always be part of someone's story, but it does not have to be the whole story.
At Heroes on the Water, we've seen how connection, community, and shared experiences can help people realize they are not alone.
If you are struggling, know that seeking support is a sign of strength. Whether through family, friends, fellow service members, professional support, or organizations like Heroes on the Water, help is available and healing is possible.
Today, we encourage greater awareness, understanding, and support for those living with invisible wounds.
Take 5 min and write down 10 things you're greatful for from today. Can't think of at least 10? Try 5. If you can't think of 5, maybe you're not thinking hard enough or not greatful for what you have. Hold onto them and build every day. When you're discouraged, get them out and read them.

Over the past 8yrs I've delved into Neuroscience and SEL and cognitive brain function and how it reacts to trauma. My PTS isn't battle related, but living 14yrs in an abusive marriage. I was a shall of a person especially towards the end. I can tell you what catatonic is and I can tell you that dark, dangerous place in your brain that blocks out literally every attachment and emotion, your numb of feelings, indifferent and no longer want to be here. In counseling at the Harbor House they told us 6yrs before we could have any type of relationship. We laughed in the moment and 10yrs later I can tell you she was being generous.
Looking back I can see all the phases I went through, struggles, triumphs, failures, back to triumphs and the cycle...but better. Not going to lie, it's a long, somewhat painful process. Am I00% f**k no! lol. However I am a far cry better than I ever was. There IS hope. Don't ever forget how far you've come. Don't forget, some day's when you're pi**ed off you had to make yourself get ready for the day and go to work, some day's that's enough on its own. I've been an advocate for DV survivors, I've made rescue calls, that revived su***de attempts, I've sat with as addict going through withdrawal until they were clean and I've answered the call of wives who were panicked their veteran husband was going to commit su***de, and without a second thought walked into that house to talk him down.
Our members of the board have been in much similar situations themselves. We want to share what has worked for us over the years in hopes those idea's can help you too.
I listen to podcasts quite often. Some are geared towards children and SEL, some towards adults and many times they are one in the same. The brain is the brain, right?! Check out this podcast when you have a moment. I like to listen while on a walk. I always think better when I'm moving.
Let us know what you think!

Warrior Response Tool Kit #117 went out today to a young Service Member (Army) in Neenah. 🇺🇸
This one was especially meaningful.
Seeing parents who are veterans looking out for their child who is currently serving is exactly why these kits matter. They know firsthand that service can come with stress, sacrifice, and challenges that are not always visible.
Our Warrior Response Tool Kits are designed to offer practical comfort, grounding tools, sleep support, coping resources, and a reminder that no Service Member or Veteran has to carry everything alone.
Every kit matters.
Every bit of support counts.
To every Service Member, Veteran, and military family — you are seen, valued, and not alone.
