Did you know this?

Scott & Balthazar (2010) emphasize that weak grammar means weak understanding. Under-emphasized grammar issues like these often play a bigger role in comprehension difficulties than we realize.

Think of moving through written or spoken language like navigating a road map: vocabulary gives you the destinations (words), and the broad layout (macrostructure) tells you the general route. But it’s the sentence-level grammar, the specific turns and intersections, that directs your journey. When that sentence-level structure is muddled or overly simple, it’s like missing road signs and makes it hard to reach your destination.
