You tell your child to “calm down”… but here’s what they actually need. 💙
When our kids are in the middle of big emotions, our instinct is to fix it fast.
We say “calm down” hoping it will help—but their nervous system doesn’t work that way.
They can’t calm down when they’re dysregulated. They need US to be their calm first.
Co-regulation isn’t about controlling their emotions—it’s about lending them our steady presence so they can find their way back to calm.
Next time, try this:
✨ Get down to their level
✨ Take a deep breath (for you AND them)
✨ Stay present without fixing
✨ Let them feel seen
Connection before correction. Always. 🤍

If your child seems to connect more deeply with animals than people, you’re not imagining it. 💛
And it’s not something to worry about—it’s actually something beautiful.
Animals offer a kind of presence that’s rare in our busy world. They don’t judge, they don’t interrupt, and they don’t expect anything in return. They just... are.
For sensitive children, this unconditional acceptance is everything. It’s a safe space to practice empathy, to feel seen, and to simply be themselves.
So if your little one lights up around pets, talks to animals like old friends, or seeks comfort in their furry companions—celebrate it. This is their superpower. 🐾
What’s your child’s relationship with animals like? I’d love to hear. 💬
