🩺🐶 Dancer’s Big “Don’t Eat That” Adventure
Meet Dancer, a 1‑year‑old professional snack thieThis was his second foreign body surgery, and this one was rough. Lots of adhesions, a very bad obstruction, and we’re still crossing paws for him.

So today’s lesson comes straight from Dancer himself:

🍽️ “If it fits in my mouth, I will absolutely eat it.”
Not ideal.
Not safe.
Not optional for some dogs.

We asked Dancer what his favorite non‑food snack was.
He said:
“Whatever you drop. I don’t discriminate.”

For dogs like Dancer who love “forbidden snacks,” muzzle training can literally save their life.
Not for aggression
Not because they’re “bad”
But because some dogs are Olympic‑level scavengers.

A muzzle is just a seatbelt for the mouth.

We encourage families to use The Muzzle Up Project — a positive, fear‑free way to teach dogs that muzzles mean treats, fun, and safety.

❤️ Why it matters
Foreign bodies can be deadly
Repeat surgeries get harder
Adhesions make future emergencies more dangerous
Prevention is kindness

🐾 Send Dancer some love today
He’s fighting hard
He’s silly
He’s stubborn
He’s absolutely worth it

And if your dog is a “floor‑food enthusiast,” this is your sign to start muzzle training before their next adventure involves… well… a surgeon.

Jon Jon’s Big Health Update! 🐶💙

Jon Jon recently had his neuter and a perineal urethrostomy (PU), and this sweet boy is already feeling so much better. A PU surgery helps prevent dangerous urinary blockages, which can be life‑threatening for dogs. By widening the opening where urine exits, it allows him to go comfortably and reduces the risk of future emergencies.

Thanks to this procedure, and our supporters making this procedure affordable, Jon Jon is happier, more relaxed, and finally able to enjoy life without pain or discomfort. Seeing him wagging his tail again reminds us exactly why this work matters.

This is why H.E.A.R.T. Inc. is so important to us: to make sure animals like Jon Jon get the care, comfort, and second chances they deserve.

🐾 HELP US BUILD A LIFELINE FOR PETS IN NEED 🐾

As a small affordable 501(c)(3) veterinary clinic, we receive calls every day from pet owners facing heartbreaking emergencies they simply cannot afford at large emergency hospitals. While we are not a 24/7 emergency clinic, we are working toward creating an ON-CALL network of compassionate veterinarians and veterinary technicians who want to make a difference.

We are currently looking for:
• Volunteer veterinarians & veterinary technicians
• Paid relief veterinarians & veterinary technicians
• Compassionate professionals who believe affordable emergency care should exist for every family and every pet

Together, we can help provide life-saving surgeries and urgent care options for pets whose families have nowhere else to turn.

If you are interested in joining our mission, please contact us by email at [email protected] for more information.

Every helping hand brings hope to a pet in need.

🐾 Sweet Lula! We helped beautiful Lula, who came in for her spay and the removal of a mammary mass.

This is a great time to for some important reminders!!!

❤️ Early spaying saves lives.
Unspayed female dogs and cats are at high risk for:
• Mammary tumors (the risk skyrockets with each heat cycle)
• Pyometra, a life‑threatening uterine infection
• Unplanned pregnancies and complications like dystocia
• Ovarian and uterine cancers

Spaying before the first heat reduces the risk of mammary cancer to almost zero.
Spaying at any age eliminates the risk of pyometra entirely.

Lula’s family did the right thing by getting her the care she needed, and today, she’s on the path to a healthier, safer future.

💙 To Lula:

We’re sending you all the healing vibes and soft‑blanket snuggles.

💙 To our community:
Please spay your pets early.
It’s one of the most loving, protective choices you can make.

🐾💙 Show Us Your Post‑4th of July Pets! 💙🐾
We hope everyone had a safe and relaxing 4th of July!
While we all recover from the food, the fun, and the fireworks, we want to see how your furry family members are spending the day after.

Are they napping extra hard?
Still giving you the “please no more loud noises” side‑eye?
Rocking their patriotic bandanas?
Or just being their adorable selves?

📸 Drop a picture of your pets in the comments!
Let’s fill this thread with cuteness while we all ease back into normal life.

We can’t wait to see your fur babies! 💙🐾🇺🇸

🎆🐾 Happy 4th of July from H.E.A.R.T., Inc.! 🐾🎆
We hope everyone enjoys a fun, safe, and relaxing holiday with family, friends, and of course… your pets.
While we celebrate, it’s important to remember that fireworks can be frightening and dangerous for animals. A little preparation goes a long way in keeping them calm and protected.

💙 A Few Quick Safety Tips for Tonight:
• Keep pets indoors before fireworks begin
• Turn on TV, fans, or calming music to help drown out the noise
• Make sure collars fit and microchips are updated
• Walk dogs early while it’s still quiet
• Create a cozy safe space with blankets and familiar smells

Fireworks are fun for us — but they can be overwhelming for our furry family members.
Let’s keep Maryland’s pets safe, calm, and home where they belong.

Wishing you all a happy and safe 4th of July!

🎆🐾 Fireworks Are Fun for Us… Terrifying for Pets. 🐾🎆
With the 4th of July tomorrow, we want to help keep Maryland’s pets safe, calm, and protected.
Every year, shelters and rescues see a spike in lost, injured, and panicked animals, but with a little preparation, we can prevent so many emergencies.

💙 Why Fireworks Are Dangerous for Pets:
• Loud booms trigger fear, anxiety, and panic
• Pets may bolt, jump fences, or break out of crates
• Stress can cause vomiting, shaking, drooling, or destructive behavior
• Senior pets and those with heart conditions are especially vulnerable

🐾 How to Keep Your Pet Safe Tomorrow:
1. Keep pets indoors, even if they’re “usually fine.”
2. Create a safe space with blankets, white noise, and familiar smells.
3. Turn on TV, fans, or calming music to help drown out the noise.
4. Make sure collars fit and microchips are updated.
5. Walk dogs early before fireworks begin.
6. Close windows and curtains to reduce sound and flashes.
7. Use calming tools (Thundershirts, pheromone sprays, vet‑approved meds).
8. Never bring pets to fireworks shows.

❤️ If your pet has severe anxiety:
Talk to your veterinarian about medication or calming supplements.
There is no shame in helping your pet feel safe.

💙🐾 Let’s keep Maryland’s pets safe, calm, and home where they belong.
Share this to help another family prepare. It could save a life.

🐾 Meet Mozart 🐾
This is Mozart, a brave little cat whose story shows exactly what can happen when rescues, volunteers, and community members work together.

A non‑Laurel resident reached out to Laurel Cats for help after realizing something was very wrong with Mozart. Laurel Cats immediately contacted us, because when an animal is in crisis, county lines don’t matter. Compassion does.

When Mozart arrived, it was clear he needed urgent care.
His femur was in multiple pieces, and he was in significant pain.
Our team stepped in to stabilize him, manage his pain, and begin the process of getting him the care he needs to heal.

This is what collaboration looks like.
This is what community looks like.
This is what heart looks like.

💙 To Laurel Cats: Thank you for trusting us.
💙 To the Good Samaritan who reached out: Thank you for not giving up on him.
💙 To our supporters: You make cases like Mozart’s possible.
Mozart has a long road ahead, but he’s safe, he’s loved, and he’s getting the care he deserves.

Please send this sweet boy all your healing vibes today.
He needs them.

💙🐾 Send Healing Vibes to Mo! 🐾💙
Meet Mo, a sweet pup who gave his family quite a scare.
Mo came to us after swallowing something he definitely shouldn’t have, the top of a baby bottle.
Foreign bodies like this can be incredibly dangerous, and they rarely pass on their own.

Our team jumped into action to perform a foreign body removal surgery, and Mo is now on the road to recovery, but could use all the good thoughts, prayers, and healing vibes Maryland can send his way.

🩺 Why this matters:
Dogs explore the world with their mouths.
But swallowing the wrong thing can lead to:
• intestinal blockage
• perforation
• infection
• life‑threatening complications
• emergency surgery (like Mo needed)

🐾 What you can do at home:
• Keep baby items, toys, socks, and small objects out of reach
• Supervise pets who like to “sample” things
• If your pet swallows something: don’t wait
• Vomiting, lethargy, drooling, or refusing food are red flags

Foreign bodies are preventable, but only if we stay one step ahead. Trust us we understand that even with this diligence some of our fur kids will still find ways to get themselves in trouble, when this happens it's important to be proactive.

💙 Please send Mo all your healing vibes today.
