Designing curriculum for signing communities means so much more than translating materials—it means rethinking how knowledge is built, shared, and owned in a visual and relational way.

Here are a few things I keep in mind when developing Deaf-centric curriculum:
• Is the content accessible visually and linguistically?
• Does it honor the lived experiences and values of Deaf communities?
• Are Deaf leaders involved in every stage—from ideation to delivery?
• Are assessments and outcomes aligned with real-world contexts?
• Does it build long-term capacity, not just short-term knowledge?
