Did you know? When a child rides in a forward-facing car seat, using the top tether is one of the most important parts of the installation. The tether helps reduce how far a child’s head moves forward in a crash, lowering the risk of serious head and neck injuries. Always attach and tighten the top tether when installing a forward-facing car seat, following both your vehicle owner’s manual and the car seat manufacturer’s instructions. Every trip. Every time.
Attaching the tether is one of the biggest errors when installing a forward-facing car seat. Tether anchors can be tricky to find so check your vehicle owner’s manual to find yours. You can also find a car seat checkup near you: https://bit.ly/3U0u80h

As Safe Kids Month has come to a close, we’re proud of the impact we made throughout Anderson County and beyond!
Beginning the last week of April and continuing into early June, Safe Kids participated in 7 Summer Fun Sun Safe presentations to 275 children across Anderson County. The presentation covered water safety, bike safety, and skin safety.
The Soirée gave us an opportunity to educate on Safe Kids initiatives and work alongside the community to create a LEGO mural.
Following the Soirée was The Great American Gun & Knife Show. Over 1000 people attended the event in Anderson. Hundreds of people engaged with Safe Kids and learned about safe firearm storage while receiving cable locks to take home.
We conducted 2 Car Seat Education and Distribution classes, 1 Safe Sleep class, 2 Community-wide car seat check events, and 1 Adaptive Car Seat Clinic to support children with specialized transportation needs.
In addition, Safe Kids participated in a couple of Doclink’s Arrive Alive activities. Every safe driving decision starts with education. Arrive Alive helps teens see firsthand how impairment affects driving, empowering them to protect themselves, their passengers, and everyone who shares the road.
Every presentation, inspection, and conversation is an opportunity to prevent injuries and keep children safe. Thank you to our partners, volunteers, and families who help make this work possible!
