Angela Molloy grew up a fifth-generation Methodist — beloved by her congregation, yet told her disabled body was a problem to be fixed and her q***r identity had no place in God's future. A new independent documentary, “The Body of Christ Has AIDS,” is asking the question that has gone largely unexamined in decades of AIDS storytelling and media: Where was the American Protestant church? The answer, it turns out, is complicated. The California-Pacific Conference played a key role in funding the documentary, which features a United Methodist pastor and various ministries.

Seattle's Atlantic Street Center, founded in 1910 by two UMC deaconesses, continues its mission of supporting children, youth, and families. As a United Women in Faith National Mission Institution, ASC's Teen & Young Adult Parent Program achieved 100 percent high school graduation in 2025 and launched a Peer Parent Pathway connecting alumni as mentors — a century of deaconess-rooted compassion still bearing fruit.
