IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BAND AND ORCHESTRA PARENTS AND STUDENTS.
Dear Families of Musicians,
*There are a lot of important concert details in this message. Please read to the end.*
The school year is almost over already! These students have come such a long way in such a short time and we would like to show you what they’ve learned at our finals concerts of the year. We have two concerts remaining before the end of the school year.
The first concert is Sonic Boom! (The exclamation point is part of the name). It is an event unlike any other and an unforgettable experience. On Tuesday, May 2nd at the Alaska Airlines Center on UAA Campus, roughly 1,750 6th grade band and orchestra students will gather for a massive concert. The students have been preparing for this concert and working hard to memorize their music. Here are the details I have so far. I’ll share more details as I get them.
Timeline:
6:00 pm - Students arrive at Alaska Airlines Center and are seated.
6:30 pm - Rehearsal
7:30 pm - Concert Begins
8:00 pm - Concert Ends
Due to audience capacity, only two tickets will be given to every student family. Tickets will be scanned at front entrance (parking map to follow). Tickets will be distributed soon.
Students will enter at west side (map to follow). They will travel through the auxiliary gym and down to the court. Students will leave large instrument cases (bass, cello, trombone, baritone) in the gym.
Reminder - music must be memorized. No stands or music.
Percussionists are not allowed to bring drums, only bells.
There is no scheduled student break between arrival and departure - please inform them to plan accordingly
Student dress code is white top and black bottoms just like our other concerts.
Sonic Boom! will be a very fun, crazy, and loud event. If your student has sensitive hearing, ear protection is not a terrible idea.
The second concert will be at Abbott Loop Elementary on Wednesday, May 17th at 10:30 am in the gym.
This concert will be very similar to the Winter Concert and will feature the school’s band and orchestra.
This concert will be a half hour long
Families are welcome to attend!
The dress code is white tops and black bottoms just like the other concerts
Music does not need to be memorized for this concert
if your student has borrowed an instrument and/or supplies from the school district, I will be collecting them following this concert
Thank you for your continued support through this year. Please encourage your students to keep up a strong practice regiment as we finish out the school year. I’ll send out another email as we get closer to the events.
See you soon!
