At the Mat-Su Regional Health Transformation Project convening last week, we were presented with data showing that cancer remains the leading cause of death in both the Mat-Su Borough and Alaska.*

Early detection and treatment are a key piece of changing that statistic. Alaskans commonly get care across systems, so data is fragmented. As this study reinforces, self-reported data has limitations. Health Information Exchanges can help connect the dots and support patients in getting the preventive screenings that can save lives.

Health Information Exchange in action:

Alex’s story is an example inspired by real situations experienced by patients and care teams across Alaska. It illustrates how Health Information Exchange can support whole-person care by helping providers identify health-related social needs and connect individuals to resources like food and housing.

The story is fictional. The impact is real.
