If you know .refsnider, you know he's not one to back down from a big challenge.

Kurt just got back from a one-month 1,000-mile multi-sport traverse across Nevada.

The goal for his journey was to traverse the length of Nevada and the Great Basin starting from his doorstep in Prescott by bike and foot (and with a little paddling thrown in by necessity).

Kurt's trip by the numbers:
• 35 days (3 rest days along the way)
• 490 miles on mountain bike
• 1.5 miles paddling across Lake Mead
• 380 miles on foot
• 190 miles on gravel bike
• 117,000 feet of vertical
• 12 mountain ranges crossed/traversed
• Longest stretch between towns - 3 weeks
• Longest stretch between water - 2 days
• 16 days on which I didn't see another person (not counting Claire for the week she joined)
• 14 days with highs in the mid-90s
• 10 minutes of rain over the entire time out
• Most prolific wildlife: Feral horses, eye flies, and mormon crickets

In Kurt's words, "the landscapes of the Great Basin are equal parts awe-inspiring, remote, and intimidating, and boy was it ever an amazing experience, and at times daunting, to spend a month moving across this high desert region under my own power. My route connected rough 4x4 roads and new mountain bike trail networks in southern Nevada, and then I traded out bikepacking gear for backpacking gear in Pioche and joined the enigmatic Great Basin Trail hiking route to cross most of the state. I don't think I'd ever been on a backpacking trip longer than 3 days, so 3 weeks was a big leap, especially with no towns along the way and in such dry country! For the final few days, I hopped on my gravel bike and rode up to Jarbidge, the most remote town in the lower 48 and ended the journey with a foot traverse of the high peaks of the Jarbidge Mountains. I was also lucky to have Claire able to join for the middle week of hiking and share some of the journey with her."

Congrats on another big effort Kurt, we can't wait to see what you cook up next!
