It’s one of only about 100 purpose-built silo houses in the country — not a converted barn, built this way from the ground up in the 1970s. Fresh flowers from our local flower farm Stems on State.
Fresh flowers, picked with care. 🌿 I love supporting my favorite local flower farmer and bringing a little bit of the season into The Silo whenever I can. ☀️🕶

One of the things that makes The Silo so special is being adjacent to the UMass Student Farm. Our guests get a front-row seat to the changing seasons, beautiful sunsets, and one of UMass’s most inspiring hands-on learning experiences. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! 🌱
From a quarter-acre of kale to a 20-acre student-run enterprise, the UMass Student Farm is a powerful example of learning by doing.
Founded by Amanda Brown ’00 AS, ’02, ’08 MEd and Ruth Hazzard ’89, the program gives students hands-on experience managing a real farm that supplies produce to UMass Dining, Big Y, and local CSA members.
