🔴 IN ATLAS | CHAPTER ZERO
In our first specialist volume dedicated to international contemporary fiber art, you will find an in-depth article exploring the research and poetics of Michael Sylvan Robinson an American artist and a leading figure in the contemporary fiber art landscape.
A genderqueer artist and activist, Robinson weaves textile practices, performance, costume design, and political engagement into powerful, multilayered works that question identity, the body, care, and resistance. His interdisciplinary background and the constant dialogue between art and activism make his work an essential voice in today’s debate on the role of art in contemporary society.
Exhibited internationally in prestigious museums and galleries, Robinson has also gained global visibility through a commission for Jordan Roth, who wore one of his creations at the 2021 Met Gala, drawing the attention of Vogue and Vogue France. His practice is currently represented by the Contemporary Art Modern Project Gallery in Miami.
