Yesterday's tragic incident at Abbey Square was a reminder of the extraordinary teamwork that takes place during an emergency.

This complex response required seamless coordination among numerous agencies, involving fire suppression, accident investigation, scene stabilization, and a highly technical vehicle recovery. After the building partially collapsed around the vehicle, operators from Amherst Highway Department worked alongside firefighters, using heavy equipment with remarkable precision to carefully expose and remove the vehicle from the structure.

I want to thank the Amherst Highway Department, Amherst Police Department, Town of Amherst Emergency Services, Snyder Fire Department, the Town's nine other volunteer fire companies that backfilled stations to ensure there were no gaps in emergency coverage, Twin City Ambulance, and our utility partners. Every organization played a vital role, bringing its own expertise and working together under extraordinarily difficult circumstances. It is this level of cooperation and preparedness that allows our emergency response system to function so effectively when it matters most.

Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life. Thank you to everyone who responded with compassion, skill, and dedication during this difficult incident.
