It originates in South America around the Andean areas of Colombia, Peru, and Chile and is actually related to eggplants, tomatoes, and peppers 🌶 You can eat pepino melons at any stage of ripeness depending on what you’re in the mood for. Eating them unripe and hard will result in a cucumber like flavor with a refreshing crunch- great for salads! Waiting until they are yellowish in color and soft like a pear will taste like a subtlety sweet cantaloupe melon with a smooth, melt in your mouth texture.
