April 19th was Connor’s was his 12th birthday in heaven. Our time he would have turned 29. In my mind he is forever 17. As an animal fan of all creatures God made, he lived armadillos. April is Stress Awareness Month, and today I’m easing some of the pressure we often place on beginnings.
Starting something new, especially counseling, can feel uncertain. There can be questions, hesitation, even a little fear of not knowing what to say or how it will go. But it doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to begin.
Day 16: First Session of Counseling
Your first session isn’t about pressure.
It’s about:
• Getting comfortable
• Sharing at your pace
• Being heard
You’re in control of your story.
There is no expectation to say everything all at once. No need to have it all figured out before you walk in. Just showing up is enough.
Today, I’m reminding myself that starting gently is still starting… and that matters.
