Working with Penn State Sustainability Institute and the Borough of State College, our students explored experiential graphic design strategies for the Fraser Street Parking Garage—rethinking it as a more accessible, engaging, and community-focused space.

In Graphic Design Studio I, 12 MFA candidates explored the role of visual identity in the context of sustainable wellbeing through a three-phase service design project:
1️⃣ Research
2️⃣ Visual Identity System
3️⃣ Brand Story Book & Applications At the end of Phase 2, we implemented a Silent Feedback session—an exercise that encourages self-reflection and critical thinking. Each of the 12 students provided feedback by posting handwritten comments on sticky notes next to their peers’ visual identity posters, without verbal discussion. This silent method allowed participants to form independent perspectives, minimizing social influence and promoting deeper visual analysis.
