This one gets me salty 😡

A 6yo child with ASD has never been given motor speech therapy because he “doesn’t have enough words to evaluate for CAS.”

Meanwhile, all ten consistent words demonstrate vowel distortions, weak articulating contacts, groping, slow rate, segmentation, reduced phonetic repertoire… must I go on?!

This boy WANTS to speak but because quantity of words wasn’t found to be adequate, he has missed out on YEARS of motor speech.

This is not an 18-mo old with limited words and emerging language.

He fits the criteria for both:
Apraxia of Speech ✅
AND
Dysarthria ✅

…a well intentioned SLP was too afraid to diagnose, which in turn, lost this kid years of the therapy he needed.
