Purposeful Play Busy Bags

A few days ago, I asked how you encourage imaginative play with your kids. One of the things that I like to do with my kids is to not have all the toys accessible all the time. We have a closet where we keep a lot of our more interactive toys. Anytime the kids want to get some thing out of the closet they can, but just one thing at a time. Or if we have a day where I can tell they need some more structured playtime, I will bring something out for them to play with. This morning my daughter was not handling free-play well so I brought out the barn and the bucket of animals and she has been happily playing and singing at the table for nearly an hour. When she is done, this toy will get put away and it probably won’t come back out for a month, but every time it comes out, it feels like a brand new toy, and the excitement starts all over again.
