As we say often we pride ourselves on using authentic Cajun ingredients! We are running low on a few important things. We will be closed for a few days to head home, recharge, see Grandma, stock up on ingredients, and let our hardworking staff enjoy a few well deserved days with their families. They need some time to lounge around, take the kids to the pool, buy school supplies, and get everything ready for the next stretch of busy days!!! Thank yall for being patient with our process. It’s a dream come true to operate in a way that honors time with friends and family.

GOOD MORNING ALTON! ☀️ I just wanted to take a moment and acknowledge that it has been FOUR YEARS since the day we got the keys to 1808 Washington Avenue. Das UPTOWN Alton, Illinois, baby!!!! ❤️ And let me be the first to tell ya… it has been a WILD roller coaster ride of emotions every single day since. Was it ever easy? HELL NO. Have we had days that made us want to run home, cry, and quit? More than you could ever imagine.

MAIS LA! Dat don’t stop nothing, baby. No matter the woes of it all, we are so completely in love with the process of running a restaurant. Call it crazy. Call it Stockholm syndrome. 😂 For better or worse, we are addicted to the thrill of it all.

When we announced our opening, several people questioned why we would choose this location. We remain so proud to be in Alton. Proud to be Uptown. We do a lot of damage in this little 800 square foot building. 🤣 It always makes me laugh when people say, “Are y’all even open? I never see anyone in there.”

Baby… this little shoebox gets to ROCKIN’ okay??? 🤭 If you know, YOU KNOW!

What began as a desire to share Cajun food and culture with my friends has snowballed into a strong community of incredibly passionate Gumbo lovers.

However you show up for us, whether it is hitting the drive thru twice a week for a shrimp basket, ordering on DoorDash, telling your friends about us, or leaving thoughtful comments and Google reviews… ALL DAT love adds up to something really incredible.

I would not recommend this business to someone looking to get rich quick.

But if you are looking for a life full of purpose… sharing your culture and running a restaurant has got to be one of the best careers in the world. 🥰

I remember as a kid sitting around the dinner
table with my mom eating whatever delicious cajun meal she made.. red beans and rice, gumbo, or a lil’ rice and gravy. And saying "man, people around here would buy this!” We had just moved to the Midwest. My teenage years I spent inviting friends over to eat my mom's cooking. A few friends spent time with me during our high school summers in Louisiana meeting my family and eating dishes they probably still crave. Fast forward ‘bout 15 years and my boys live in a community where their friends, classmates, teachers, everyone loves Gumbo 2 Geaux!
