I’ve had an Audible Membership since 2010. Of all the jobs I’ve had over the years, it never dawned on me that I could be an Audiobook Narrator!?

Then, in 2013, a writer heard me telling a story at a party, she asked me to narrate her book, and the rest is history. It is, by far, the best job I’ve ever had. It’s NOT an easy job and it’s not always “fun”. But, it is magical. It is an art. And, I’m very proud of what I do.

I have coached with the best. Then, I study their techniques and style by listening to their work. I pay close attention to a narrators choices, subtle nuances, emotions, and heart that each weaves into the titles they’ve been honored to record. It has always felt like an “honor” to be chosen to breathe life into an Author’s words. After all, many books take YEARS to write! My respect for authors and their talent, drive & perseverance through the research and edit after edit, is profound. Writing is an art. An art that can, without being overly-dramatic, change lives.

Putting my Audible account on hold was a tough choice for me. Listening to audiobooks has turned into spending time with my friends and colleagues... When I have to fly or go on a long drive, when I go to the gym or the dentist, or, simply when I want a break from the chaos of it all: I’ll listen to someone I know, tell me a story. It feels like they’re there with me, calming my anxiety, distracting me from stress and taking me on a beautiful journey. It’s truly magical.

I realize listening to audiobooks is a different experience for many of you, and I know a vast majority of my friends prefer reading versus listening. OR, sadly, you’ve listened and thought the narrator was, in fact a “robot” or AI, because perhaps the audiobook you chose was narrated by someone early on in their career and their delivery was lacking(I’ll admit, some of my early work sounds pretty darn robotic)… It’s not as easy as you’d think to be a magical storyteller.

I also realize that there could very well be no way around this new technological advance.

But, if there is…. If I can somehow contribute to the continuation of HUMAN-narrated stories, then I will put my money where my mouth is(I am NOT a writer, and I MAY have chosen the wrong expressing there😏, but you know what I mean!).

At the time of this post, there is no way to search for human-voiced titles) so that listeners are still able to easily navigate their way to titles narrated by me and my fellow professional storytellers.
