“Juggernaut”, 2026, 24 x 18”, oil paint on panel. Juggernaut, the earlier reference intended in the title, not a comic book character, was something, someone unstoppable, a relentless force. Partly that, as an image of something, someone, capable of survival over time. Adding to that, my awareness of the Sherpa’s incredible ability to move a mountain of gear up the mountain, the dust bowl migrant carrying all his worldly possessions on a trek to renewal, and Goya’s man-mountain of a galoot, Bobalicon, embodiment of brute strength.

“Spotlight” 2025, 36 x 50”, oil on panel. We live in Altadena. Our home did not burn last year but so many friends’ and neighbors’ did lose theirs. We are fortunate but in the category “surviving structures”, meaning we had to navigate how to make sure everything was cleaned properly and safe to be back home. Our town is forever changed. We wait to see how it will come back and who will be here with us. In the meantime, the coyotes and other wildlife have stepped up their game.
