...Mackinac; a bridge, a straits, an island, falls and channel...

Getting to know the Great Lakes around us.

Sunk well below the Straits of Mackinac, is a submerged channel and falls. Water from Lake Michigan once flowed through a channel into Lake Huron, which today is submerged deep under the Straits of Mackinac. The channel, called Mackinac Channel, flowed around Mackinac Island and over a water fall (Mackinac Falls) into Lake Huron. Mackinac Falls are approximately one mile east of Mackinac Island’s Arch Rock, and are now submerged about 100 feet below the water’s surface.
