This is a HARD post to write! Early this morning, I lost my sweet boy, Butters! He was 16 ½ years old. He loved BBQ and traveled all over the south sampling brisket; he got thrown out of every daycare in Alexandria during the 2009/2010 “school year;” and he was THE best ballplayer I ever knew. Over the past two years, he went blind and deaf and had to be carried around…he wore diapers, causing everyone to comment “Wait! Is that dog wearing diapers?” on the Zoom calls. When I learned I had cancer, he had some innate sense and sat with me during the phone call and was the one who stayed by my side those scary months, so it was fitting that when I found out he had an aggressive spleen mass that I was by his side. Always a regal, beautiful boy, he died peacefully. My heart is broken, but it should be. Until I see you again my sweet angel! Butters Witherspoon (2/25/2008-10/2/2024).
