Lip blushing season is in full swing, and everyone has been bringing in the most beautiful inspiration colors for their appointments.

I always make sure that I have an in-depth consultation with my clients before starting any type of service. It’s important for me to understand what the client is coming in for, and what their expectations are

Every now and then I have a client coming in for something that they either want covered up or simply to make their morning routine a little bit easier and faster. Either way I need to be able to hear from them directly what the purpose of their appointment is.

After consulting with my client, I then begin mapping and contouring around the lips. And some cases I am able to include parts of a client lip that may not show any natural color- and this is where the misconception of lip blushing makes people lips bigger comes from. I do not make anybody’s lips physically larger (as that is more in line with lip filler) but I can help contour a shape that works with your natural lips to help create more definition in the lips.

After my client approves the mapping, we then go onto color matching. Some clients bring in their own lip, gloss or lipstick for me to color match and others bring in pictures of inspiration that they would like to closely resemble. I Watch my color mix to make sure that they are happy and then I move on to the actual tattoo.

I outline every single pair of lips that I do regardless, if they are wanting a lip liner affect or not. This helps me see exactly where I’m going, and helps me keep in line with the contour that we adjusted. Periodically throughout my outline I check my pressure by wiping with a Q-tip along that area. I just tattooed to make sure that I’m using enough pressure and the tip of my needle is long enough to be able to tattoo the area properly.

Once my outline is finished and I have adjusted my machine and needle and hand pressure to what my client needs, then begin the shading part, which is the fun part for me. This takes up the majority of the tattooing time. I work in light layers to build color, and some areas require more work than others.

Once the tattoo is finished, I apply a cooling Gloss over the area and while there might be a tiny bit of swelling here and there, overall the color should appear
