A worm virus is a malicious program that replicates itself and spreads automatically throughout the computer system. A worm virus exploits vulnerabilities in security software to steal sensitive information, install backdoors that can be used to access systems, corrupt files, or cause other types of system damages. Worms consume a lot of memory and bandwidth which leads to overload and malfunction of servers, individual systems and networks.
