Now you see him... now you don't! A typical morning on a federally endangered Southwestern Willow Flycatcher protocol survey in the Rio Grande bosque. This often entails watching your survey partner disappear into a willow thicket.
Every spring, our team works alongside the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to survey Southwestern Willow Flycatchers (Empidonax traillii extimus) along the bosque. This small bird was listed under the Endangered Species Act in 1995 after many years of population decline due to habitat loss and other pressures.

Good Morning Friends! First light in the Corrales Bosque reveals a young coyote that hasn't yet grown into his legs or his ears! A peaceful moment - and then he/she was gone.
Perhaps this is the young badger, checking out Jacy Dowler, our amazing field technician. Sorry, we do not release location information for rare sightings in order to protect the animals.
"Mine, mine, mine!" No doubt that is what this little female American Kestrel is saying. This is the same chick from one our our recent videos. She was a transfer from New Mexico Wildlife Center, and as you can see she can now feed herself, which is a major milestone!
