Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be frightening for pets!

Every year after the 4th of July, the Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center sees an increase in lost pets because scared animals run from the sound of fireworks, sometimes even jumping fences to escape.

Before fireworks begin:

🐾 Bring pets indoors.
🐾 Create a quiet, comfortable space.
🐾 Turn on the TV or radio to help mask the noise.
🐾 Consider calming treats or a thunder shirt.
🐾 Make sure your pet's wearing identification and is microchipped.

If your animal does go missing, we recommend the following:

1. Check your local shelters.
2. Check social media sites.
3. File a lost report at 24petconnect.com, PawBoost.com, PetcoLoveLost
4. Check with the Lost and Found Pets page: 24petconnect.com

Please note that Bernalillo County offices, excluding emergency services, are CLOSED on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.
